“Nucleus” ist die Idee einer Zeitkapsel zur Archivierung von Zeugnissen aus der Menschheitsgeschichte. Dieser Entwurf geht zurück auf die Infragestellung der Funktion eines Museums zwischen Ausstellungshaus und Kulturgüterarchiv. Die Form funktioniert nach dem Prinzip einer Muschel, bestehend aus zwei Schalen und einem zu schützenden Inhalt.

Während ehemals das Museum gegründet wurde, um wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse anschaulich zu vermitteln, ist heute die Konzeption von Wirtschaftlichkeit und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit bestimmt. Anfänglich auf bestimmte Fachgebiete ausgerichtet, verwässert die im Kampf um Publikum wieder einsetzende Universalisierung die ursprünglichen Sammlungsstärken. Nucleus ist ein Modell für einen Ort, der das Konservieren ohne herkömmliche Ausstellungsfläche für das Altonaer Museum ermöglichen soll.

“Nucleus” is the idea of a time capsule to archive evidence of cultural history. This blueprint arose from the question after the purpose of a museum pending between exhibition venue and cultural artifact archive. The form follows the concept of a mussel consisting of two shells and a protected content.

While cultural history museums were founded to communicate scientific research in an accessible manner at the turn of the century, the concept is nowadays determined by competitiveness and profitability. Once concentrated on distinct research fields the modern concept of a universal approach in order to attract a broader audience dilutes the former focuses in the collection. “Nucleus” is a model for a site that allows conservation without the conventional exhibition space.
